Frequently asked questions (FAQS)

You may find it helpful to have a read through these frequently asked questions, prior to contacting me about an appointment.

What are the aims of counselling & psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are a talking cure that enables change through self-discovery and insight. The one-to-one sessions allow you to honestly reflect on your troubles, life, memories, thoughts, feelings, and desires. Together we can untangle, explore and make sense of what you are struggling with. This increased self-awareness helps you move forward with a deeper understanding of who you are and what you want in life.

How does the process start?

Contact me by email or telephone and we will book an initial consultation of 50 minutes which will give you the opportunity to tell me what is going on for you at the moment and why you are seeking psychotherapy and to ask me any questions you may have about the process. Then we will decide if proceeding to work together is the right way forward. Currently, this initial consultation will be on video or telephone. Try not to worry if you feel nervous, it’s normal to feel anxious about contacting a therapist and starting therapy.

What happens next?

We will set up a regular time to meet each week for 50 minutes, this will either be once weekly or twice a week. We will start with an in-depth assessment where I will ask you questions about your background, history, memorable dreams, and experiences you have had. After the assessment we will work at your pace, exploring the issues which are troubling you.

How much does therapy cost?

All sessions are £60 each, including the initial consultation session.

How will the therapy end?

Endings are very important in life as well as in therapy and we will plan and work towards an ending acknowledging all the mixed feelings that may come up for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

If I cancel a session you will not be charged, but if you cancel a session the full fee will be charged.

Is everything I tell you confidential?

Yes, in accordance with BPC guidelines I keep strictly to confidentiality. If I think you may harm yourself or someone else, I will need to break this confidentiality by contacting a third party, but I would discuss this with you first if at all possible.
