The Benefits of Mindfulness

Mindfulness practice includes regular meditation to calm the brain. Brainscans have shown that neural pathways can be changed positively with regular meditation. Feelings also become less overwhelming, reducing anxiety and stress. Other benefits include helping to relieve depression, strengthen the immune system and reducing chronic pain.

So How Can I Find Out More?

I suggest trying a few short meditations. Youtube has numerous mindfulness videos: BBC Breakfast has a 12 minute report which is a good place to start. I can also recommend the Mindfulness Meditation Taster with Jon Kabat-Zinn or the 10 Minute Practice Mindfulness Podcast by Mark Willams.

If you like the feel of these then I suggest buying a book on mindfulness and seeing how you get on with it. My favourite is Mindfulness – A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Danny Penman ISBN-13: 978-0749953089.
